Blog Changes & Giveaway

I've created a website for my writing career which has necessitated the need to split this blog into two: one for writing and one for family. This blog is now incorporated into the new website. (I'm working on the tabs to convert weebly to blogger.) To celebrate my new website and re-defined blogs, I'm giving away a prize package. The rules are listed at the top of the right column of this blog. Where it says, 'this site' that means my whole new website . Check my WELCOME PRIZE GIVEAWAY post for a photo of the prize and a list of contents. Hope you enjoy your visit. :)

Visiting History

Virtually, I'm blogging at the Inkwell today about my research trip last week to the Touchwood Hills Hudson's Bay Company remains. Not even ruins. Just remains. But an extraordinary experience nonetheless. Physically, I'm in North Battleford, Saskatchewan researching a restored western town of 30 buildings and businesses. It's a cloudy day and I hope it doesn't rain as all the buildings are outside. However, there's also a huge indoor portion in case it does. But I'll be popping in to check comments here and at the Inkwell throughout the day.

At the Inkwell: Kate's Hats

Image
I'm at Inkwell Inspirations today talking about the evolution in hat styles worn by the Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and the boost she's given to the fashion industry, especially the millinery trade. Check out the photos I've posted of Kate from July 2009 to April 2011. And I've added a video - set to music - of all the hats she's worn in the past.  The questions I'm asking at the Inkwell are: What about you? Do you like wearing hats? Do you have a favourite? Do you wear one to church? Check out The Bag Lady for more info on these fascinators. Photo Credits: http://www.thebaglady.tv/2011/03/royal_wedding_s.html

Looking for Books?

Image
Have you ever wondered about the Fiction Finder widget here on my blog? It's the link to a huge database of faith-based books. You can search by author, genre or content and a great way to discover new releases. And that's what I'm discussing today on the Inkwell Inspirations blog. For today's photo, I thought I'd show you what my boys do on the farm in March... they're playing golf while standing on 3 ft of snow. Well, okay... I guess Nick isn't standing on the snow. Haha.

Blizzard, Coffee and a Supermoon

Image
The kids are home from school today because of a blizzard warning. Sheesh. Doesn't the weather know spring began 2 days ago? Another thing that happened 2 days ago was the 'supermoon'. This happened when the moon was at its closest to the earth since the early 90's. Unfortunately the sky was cloudy that night, but I took this photo a couple days before that - before I even knew it was a supermoon. I'm blogging about 19th Century Coffee Taverns at Inkwell Inspirations today. This whole movement to get the working men away from the evils of alcohol by using coffee, tea and cocoa was a complete research surprise. I hope you can take a few moments to join us in the discussion. Did you see the supermoon?

Using MS Office 10

Image
I'm blogging about Microsoft Office 10 over at Prairie Chicks Write Romance today.  I'm showing how you can add automatic numbering in your header, split screens for comparing documents, and virtual Sticky Notes. Come on over and share what you know... or what you don't. LOL The photo of the day was taken last week in Kipling, SK. The strange sun may have seemed like it was sunset, but it wouldn't go down for several hours. Instead, smoke from the British Columbia (BC) forest fires were in the air. It hung over everything like a veil and at one point, I thought a grass fire was to the south of us, towards North Dakota.  Apparently, they could see and smell the smoke all the way to Ontario.

Goody Room Pics and Giveaway

Image
Don't forget to leave a comment on My Daily Dolphin Walk post before Sunday midnight to get in on the drawing for the autographed Victoria Dahl book. I'm blogging about all the free promotional items available in the Goody Room at RWA Orlando today at Prairie Chicks. I have lots of photos to give you ideas of how you can promote yourself and your book. While I was at the RWA conference, Nelson and JJ were touring the Disney parks. In this photo, JJ is standing on a San Francisco street at Disney Hollywood Studios. Can you guess where reality ends and fiction starts? :D

Winner and Gold Fever

Image
I've collected the names from all those who left a comment on my Disney Vacation post, whether it was posted here, on Facebook, or on my eharlequin blog. And the winner of Jillian McKaslin's Love Inspired book, A McKaslin HomeComing is... FakeFrenchie from my eharl blog. Yay! I'll be posting more photos with another book giveaway tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm blogging at Inkwell Inspirations today about the time I experienced Gold Fever and went in search of a ghost town called Granite City. Photo Credit:  www.ourbc.com

Inkwell Inspirations Goes On-Line

Image
- Today is a very special day for me. A couple months ago, Gina Welborn emailed and asked if I'd like to be part of a new inspirational blog. After praying and thinking about it, I realized I wanted to be part of this new venture. It took a lot of planning, but today, Inkwell Inspirations goes online. The blog features 15 unpublished inspirational writers, but it's not your typical writing blog. Actually, it's not a writing blog at all. It's a blog where we get to express ourselves as Christian writers through our everyday lives. The blog will feature theme weeks and cover everything from recipes and travel to non-fiction books and poetry. Hopefully we'll have something that will interest you. Oh yeah, and we'll give away lots of prizes. Daily prizes for anyone leaving a comment. As well as huge writer and reader grand prizes. So come on and check us out at http://www.inkwellinspirations.blogspot.com/ -
