Book Recommendation: Masquerade Marriage

Image
Masquerade Marriage by Anne Greene, White Rose Publishing It’s 1746 in the Scottish Highlands and Brody MacCaulay wakes to a massacre. Blinded in one eye, buried beneath his dead clansmen, he hears the clipped English voices as they walk amidst the wounded Highlanders and finish them off with bayonets. Against his urge to strike out in fury, he silently waits for them to pass. Then leaving his fallen brothers and father behind on the battlefield, he gathers other injured clansmen and makes his way to a hidden cave. If they leave, they’ll be hunted by the English. Their fight, their world, is over. In a distant castle, Megan MacMurry mourns the loss of her fiancĂ© who led and perished in the Highland battle. Upon her pastor’s advice, she decides to honor her fiance’s death by saving one of his men the only way possible – through marriage. Megan is sure the chosen man will be willing to trade his doomed life for a new name, new clothes, and new life as her marriage-in-name-only husband. ...

Win an Angela Breidenbach e-Cookbook

Image
I haven't been on-line for a few days because I've been in my cave writing. But I've come out to help a friend promote her new e-Cookbook, Creative Cooking for Colitis . I'm blogging about over at Prairie Chicks Write Romance and one of the questions I've asked the author, Angela, is if the cookbook is only for people with digestive problems. She said, no. That it's also for celiac and weight loss. It's getting back to good healthy eating is what it is. And for those computer illiterate types, an e-Cookbook simply means her cookbook is not an actual book you can hold in your hands. Once you save it to your computer, you can view it at any time without needing an nternet connection. And I'll be here if you have any problem saving or viewing it. Oh - Angela's also let me post of the recipes from the cookbook along with her interview. It's Spanish Tortilla and it looks really good. So mosey on over to Prairie Chicks and leave a comment so you get...

It's Never Dull Here

It's Saturday morning and I'm hosting Vince Mooney over on the Chicks blog today. Awesome post about emotionally rewarding your reader. Is that really the secret to Nora Roberts' success? Yesterday I slipped down to my ND post office box to pick up a Sony eReader I'm test driving. I could have had it mailed to my home address but it would've taken another 2 wks by the time it crossed the border and I only have it until the end of Sept. My first obsevation is that the screen isn't backlit so I need supplemental lighting to read in the dark. Or if there is a light, I can't find it so someone please tell me how to find it. Nick comes back from camp tomorrow which means a week with both boys home before they head off again. It was nice with just the little guy this past week. He used earphones when on the computer and I went to write in the Rec Centre when he wanted to play the Wii in the living room. Funny thing happened overnight. Nelson said the power went ...

eBook Problem: iPod Touch Glitch?

Image
Okay, so you all know how much I like my iPod Touch . . . well, I’ve discovered a glitch and I'll try to explain it, but I'm not a techie so you'll have to bear with me. You see, my teen daughter and I have exactly the same iPods on the outside but of course, we have different applications and things loaded onto them. My daughter has almost 100 songs on hers, whereas I have some songs and podcasts and 35 eBooks. I guess the problem started when I began to load on the eBooks although I didn’t notice it at the time. I first uploaded ‘ More than Words’ by my friend Kelly Kirch. Once I figured out how to load that one, I uploaded some eBooks I had in my laptop’s memory that I been saving. I was on a role and decided I’d never be without a book to read again. So, I headed over to The Wild Rose Press and downloaded a bunch of free reads from their site. And that’s when I started noticing the problem. My iPod Touch seemed to be heavier. But of course, that's impossible, right...

Two eBook Reader Reviews

Image
I have 2 applications downloaded onto my iPod Touch for reading eBooks. This is not a technical review - just my findings so far: Stanza – This was the first ereader I downloaded. Once I figured out I needed to add a Stanza application to my desktop, it was easy to transfer eBooks to my Touch using WiFi which we have in our house. - The text can be adjusted to your comfort level regarding size, font and line spacing. It was very bright when I brought it to bed and read in a dark room, but it was better than putting on a bigger light and waking hubby. - I also didn’t realize until today that instead of having a bright white background, I could have changed it to black and changed the text color to white. That takes away the brightness. However, I found the letters give off a slight blur although I’m not sure why. - To counteract this, I changed the background to dark green and the text to grey. I can now read it in daylight or in the night without it ‘glaring at me’. - However, if I do...
