Fearless - Imagine Your Life Without Fear by Max Lucado, Thomas Nelson 2009 (click here for more info) Today is a special day because Max Lucado’s newest book, Fearless , is being released everywhere. As an official Book Review Blogger for Thomas Nelson, I am one of the lucky ones who received this book last week to read and review in preparation for today. Because it’s my day to blog, you get to hear it from me. And you want to hear about it. Especially if you live your life in fear... I’m not a deep thinker. I like skimming along the surface, taking words for what they say, not looking for a hidden meaning. I don’t like reading between the lines. In Fearless , Max Lucado has written so many profound sentences, I had to stop many times to think about them. And yet, I understood them. Here’s an example: ‘ Fear creates a form of spiritual amnesia. ’ I read that sentence one morning and it stayed with me throughout the day. The urge to pass it on became unbearable so finally, I tweeted...

Book Review: Reflections of God's Holy Land

Reflections of God’s Holy Land by Eva Marie Everson and Miriam Feinberg Vamosh – Thomas Nelson 2008 Blessings come in various forms from a prayer answered to a subtle awareness. Reflections of God’s Holy Land would be in the latter category. A glossy, pictorial essay suitable to display on the finest coffee table, I thought I would read it in a couple weeks, review it, and donate it to my church. Yet 5 months later, I still hold it in my hands, unwilling to pass it on. You see, I didn’t take the subtitle, A Personal Journey Through Israel , seriously. I assumed it was just another travel book with lots of beautiful photos of Israel and directions how to get there. Was I wrong. I started reading Reflections of God's Holy Land the same way I read any other book; a couple hrs set aside to entertain myself as a reward for other tasks accomplished. Yet after the first dozen pages, I realized this is not a book to be rushed in one sitting if you want to travel the journey with the a...

My Nov Writing Report

November was a very busy month for me with many ups and downs. I submitted a partial of Under a Harvest Moon - a contemporary inspirational to Barbour Publishing (after numerous revisions) I entered 2 contemporary inspirational entries in the Linda Howard Award of Excellence Contest: - Under a Harvest Moon - When You Least Expect It I entered a 500 word scene entitled The Last Bottle in Cheryl Wyatt’s Nov Prompt contest. Cheryl emailed back that I didn’t win but she liked my entry. To see/enter her Dec Prompt Contest, go here: http://scrollsquirrel.blogspot.com/ Steeple Hill sent me a rejection on An Outlaw for the Lady . However, it was not a form rejection and it detailed where I needed improvement. The editor also asked to see something else from me in the future, so this was a good rejection letter. After receiving a perfect score from one judge in the first round of judging in the Gateway to the Best Contest, Charley’s Saint came in 4th overall out of 25 entries. The final jud...

It's Official - I'm a Book Review Blogger

Last night I was going through the blog list I have listed on the right side of this screen and Inspirational writer, Kelly Marstad’s blog Writing by Faith...One Book at a Time intrigued me. Kelly’s post on Oct 30th talks about becoming a book reviewer for the publisher Thomas Nelson. Apparently, Thomas Nelson has realized the power of personal reviews and personal blogs. To this effect, they are inviting a limited number of readers to become Book Review Bloggers (BRB). The benefits of becoming a BRB is that you receive free books to review and you get a link to your blog on the Thomas Nelson website. The requirements are simple: Read the book, write a review and post the review on: - Your personal blog - The Thomas Nelson Book Review Blog - Any commercial website (from Amazon to Walmart and others in between) Report to Thomas Nelson when your review has been posted so they can update your account, and then pick another book to review. Now this seemed too easy to me. I already write bo...
