At the Inkwell: Jessie's story

I've tried my hand at writing a devotional over at Inkwell Inspirations today. Daughter Jessie is 19 today and all this week - since she flew back to Calgary - I've been thinking back to the time surrounding her miraculous birth. So if you have a chance, skip over to the Inkwell and read Jessie's story . And if you know her and have access to Facebook, wish her a happy day, would ya?

Jessie's Graduation

Image
Last Saturday, my 2nd child graduated from high school. This was her special night. Here she is in our van as she waits for her escort to meet us. Jessie and her friend and escort, Nick Yoner enjoying their meal. From left to right: Nick Draper, Jessica Draper, Nick Yoner, Grandma Draper, Anita Mae Draper with JJ in front, Nelson Draper. Jessie dancing with her Dad Noelle Bonk took this photo at Tim Horton's where they all went in the wee hours of the morning. That's a long way for coffee! My poor baby had such a long day.

Jessie's Grad is Today

Today is my daughter's graduation. Jessica is wearing a princess dress only a doting father would buy for his daughter. I'll post pictures when I have them. And I'd love to tell you more but I have a very big day starting with going into the city to pick my mother-in-law. So have a good weekend and I'll talk to you soon.

A Prairie Chick Goes on Retreat

Outside my window, the trees bow and bob as if trying to shoot out the new green leaves like bullets from a Gatling gun. The air whistles as it’s forced through a crack beside the door. No matter where I go in the house, I hear the dull roar from outside, advancing and retreating in waves. When the kids opened the door to leave for school, the air filled with an earthy vegetative smell reminiscent of a forest. The normally blue sky is obscured by a mantle of clouds. Yet, I’m snug inside our little house on the prairie. :) Since Jessie has a music lesson and dental appt in the city today, I’m making an executive decision to stay in my jammies until I have to leave to pick her up from school. I can get more writing done that way, you see and read my Prairie Chick post tomorrow to see what I'm talking about. Jessie also has her final grad dress fitting today. A princess dress, bought by a father who dotes on her. In my wildest dreams I’ve never imagined such a dress on anyone other th...

She Will Always Be My Child

Image
My 2nd child turns 18 today. Of course, I knew today would come for quite some time, but I don't feel ready for it. My child was born 5 wks premature. After my water broke, we had to drive an hour through a blizzard to get to the hospital. She was welcomed into the world with her dad holding my right hand while her 12 yr old sister held my left. My child went on strike when she was 4 yrs old because she wanted to go to kindergarten in Sept but had to have been born prior to Dec 31st of that year. The sign she carried said, ' Age discrimination - Born 10 days too late! ' (Although I made the sign, going on strike was her idea after she saw a strike on the news and asked why the people were carrying signs. I told her the people wanted to make a change and that's how they protested. The next day, she told me she wanted to go on strike.) My child is a confident public speaker and has attended many Youth Leadership Forums. My child is a Worship Leader in church and uses her...
