2011 Goals

This past year I crossed a big goal off my list when I submitted my Emma’s Outlaw manuscript to a literary agent as well as the editor of a publishing house. I accomplished this goal in mid-Nov and now it’s a waiting game.

My immediate goal is use the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) NovelTrack to finish my current project by the end of January. Much like National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and Book-in-a-Month (BIAW), NovelTrack is an on-line community where writers keep of track with their word count totals and get encouragement from other writers. It makes me accountable.

My goal for NovelTrack is to write 2,000 words of my Mountie story each day for a total of 60,000 words by the end of January.

My writing goals/resolutions for the year 2011 are to:

- Submit my Mountie story to Love Inspired Historical

- Actively seek a literary agent

- Apply the requested revisions to my Marry Me Ma’am manuscript and re-submit to The Wild Rose Press

- Write Book 2 (about Emma’s brother) in my Wild Wyoming series


This year I won’t be entering any contests unless there’s a specific final judge I wish to get my work in front of and that’s the only way to catch his/her attention.

Another goal I’d like to accomplish is to finish my website as a companion to this blog. I’ve had the website in place for a year now and other than offering daily horse wisdom (which I have linked in), I haven’t done anything with it. I’d really like to change that.

I’m hoping to attend the ACFW conference in St Louis this Sept. I’d also like to attend the Romance Writers of America (RWA) conference in New York at the end of June but at this point it’s a long shot.

Those are my writing goals for this coming year. Personally, I’m going to continue my weight loss. I managed to lose 53 lbs in 2010 by making lifestyle changes such as healthier eating. This year I’m going to add an exercise routine to my schedule to continue my weight loss program.

    your goals all sound very reachable, which i guess makes it more easy to actually accomplish.

    i'm so excited about you getting Emma's Outlaw submitted and also the weight loss you accomplished.

    my goal is to lose 60 lbs of weight this year. your success has spurred me on. i'm also interested in how your manuscript with The Wild Rose Press works out. I've been contemplating attempting a submission of short lengths with them. i seem to do better with shorts than actual novels. i guess those two things are my most immediate goals - well, besides making sure i'm a better mommy for little "Guppy".

    My goals? Um . . . haven't thought too much about them. I know I want to get some more done on the revisions of Cassandra's Secrets. I also want to work on my new novel that doesn't have a name yet. Unfortunately writing is in the very last seat of the bus behind school, work and my kids.

    Hey Deb, I highly recommend The Wild Rose Press and their inspirational branch White Rose Publishing as great ebook publishers. Owner Rhonda Penders has an easy going yet professional style of working with her editors and authors. I've participated in several chats where the whole crew comes on-line to give news and advice and listen to concerns of wannabee. Both divisions have websites full of blogs and information for readers and writers. They love short fiction as there is quite the demand for it. Let me know if you have any questions, okay?

    A year ago I would have considered a 60 lb weight loss as an impossibility in a year but now I know different. Since I still have that much to lose, we could work together, eh. The main thing is to change eating habits and drink lots of water. Email me if you wish to get something going between us.

    Hey Capt'n, it's so good to see you. I've thought of and prayed for you every once in a while since you disappeared off the radar.

    Good to know you've been writing with all the other stuff in your life. I took an anthropology class once but wasn't as excited as you with it. History is more my style. :)

    I wish you well on your revisions. And you are a smart one to start another project. The best thing is to have one project submitted and another one being worked on.

    I've missed you all too. For the longest time I didn't have any net access, so no blog reading.

    It was shocking when the first blog I checked - the Prairie Chicks - was disbanded! But I'm glad you all left behind your personal blogs so I can keep up with you.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed (which makes typing very difficult you know) that you hear good things back about Emma.

    Thank you Sarah. It was a difficult decision about the Praire Chicks blog but it took me a day or two to write a decent post and I just couldn't afford the time any longer.

    However, I'm glad the door is still open for us and I do go there often to use the material that's gathered.

    And speaking of our personal blogs, it's been awhile since I checked them out, too. :(

Prairie Wildlife Photos

These days, I'm busy working on the final draft of my historical romance, Emma's Outlaw , so I thought I'd give you some photos to check out. They are all of prairie wildlife in my area. Do you remember the afternoon JJ and I sat in the van on the empty dirt road with the suspicious looking dynamite box and waited for the Mountie? Well, these cowbirds kept us company. I had this photo in mind and just needed to wait for the cowbird to take flight. I waited. And, I waited.
