The Anonymous Bride (Book 1 Texas Boardinghouse Brides series) by Vickie McDonough There’s just something about a mail-order bride story that fills me with more anticipation than a normal romance. Probably because of that unknown factor of the hero and heroine expecting to wed – sometimes within hours – of meeting. So when Vickie McDonough put out the call for influencers to review a copy of the first book in her Texas Boardinghouse Brides series , I put my hand up faster than a winner does at Bingo. The Anonymous Bride greatly exceeded everything I hoped for in a romance. Vickie’s easy writing style was the perfect vehicle for this historical set in 1886 Lookout, Texas. Visually appealing, the scenes unfolded without laborious descriptions to slow down the pace. And the humor… I can’t tell you how many times I laughed out loud. Summer is here! Forget the calendar and the weather. It's Queen Victoria's birthday and that means summer is unoffically here. Yay!!! And to celebrate, I'm blogging over at Inkwell Inspirations about what the Victoria Day weekend means to Canadians. Drop in for a visit and tell me what this day/weekend means to you. Some of the choices are... gardening, camping, partying, etc. Oh yeah, and lets not forget the good queen's birthday so let me know where the nearest firework display is going to be held. I'm blogging about The Anonymous Bride by Vickie McDonough over at Inkwell Inspirations today. I'm giving you the lowdown on Book 1 in the Texas Boardinghouse Brides series which really touched my heart. If you like stories about mail-order brides, then you have to mosey on over to the Inkwell. My question for you over there is: Anyone else like reading about mail-order brides?

The sun is bright and the days are hot. I've got my curtains closed and I'm in my cool house hiding from the ticks. *shudder I was very disappointed when I learned I didn't final in the Touched by Love contest. I'm now waiting for all my judges' comments for the second contest and then I'm going to hole up in my cave and get to work. But I wanted to give you something to smile about so I'm including this video. A few months ago, Trost Moving Pictures held a scriptwriting contest called The Raw Talent contest. This is one contest I didn't enter. However, in today's email was the video announcing the writer who did win. Watch this and see if it doesn't make you smile... Have a great day!

The results of the American Christian Fiction Writer's annual Genesis contest were announced yesterday and I couldn't find my name anywhere on the list. And I looked at least three times. My rollercoaster feelings went from a depressing low for not being 'good enough' to an exhilarating high for my Inkwell Inspirations' sisters - Lisa Richardson and Susanne Dietz - who DID final. Woo hoo Lisa and Susie!!! This post was going to be about how to pick yourself up and continue writing after a devastating disappointment such as this but my morning email brought a pleasant surprise... I've been asked to guest blog at the International Christian Fiction Writers (ICFW) blog on May 31st and I think that will be the theme of my post over there. I'm blogging at  Prairie Chicks Write Romance today about those memorable lines in books, TV and films. I've mentioned lines from Gone With the Wind , Star Trek , When Harry Met Sally , Always , Poltergeist , Sudden Impact ,  The Terminator and Terminator 2 . But there are so many others where you instantly remember the book or movie as soon as you hear the line. Here's one I didn't mention over there... " Hey, what's up, Doc? k This week at Inkwell Inspirations  we're discussing books from our childhood under the theme 'Once Upon a Time'. I'm blogging at the Inkwell today about my favorite childhood book, The Poky Little Puppy. I've talked about what this small book meant to me and about the author and illustrator who brought the story to life. As well as discussing the book in the comment section, I've included a list of all the other Poky Puppy stories which have been published over the years. Just thought I'd post some photos of our muddy ride to church yesterday. The roads were so greasy, we fishtailed a wee bit a few times. As a professional driver, hubby was in his element. Then we got behind a 'Sunday driver' who wouldn't pull over to let us pass. We had to follow him (hubby says it was a her) for about 20 km/20 miles. He/she was going so slow. And then we were late for church. *sigh When we arrived in Glenavon, we saw they had received a lot more snow than us. Or maybe it was just that theirs stayed around while ours melted. After, when we were having brunch at the bakery, I was telling them that I had prayed the whole way. My prayers consisted of asking God to put His hands on the wheel. Hubby perked up and said, "So that's why it was so hard to steer." LOL
